Account takeover is a form of identity theft that works through a series of steps to gain access to victims’ accounts. It can occur on almost any type of account, and when it occurs, the ability to carry out numerous unauthorized transactions is wide open and ultimately results in a financial loss.
Financial Institutions should be prepared to investigate and Identify the root source and cause.

Panelist Bio: Sam began his career as a police officer with the City of Hialeah. Duties included detective in robbery, homicide, arson, fraud, auto theft, policies, and internal affairs. As a supervisor, Sam was the internal affairs commander and retired as financial crimes unit supervisor.

In the private sector Sam worked 14 years for a major financial institution as an investigator and manager. Duties included all fraud types impacting credit cards, bank, student and personal loans and corporate investigations.

Sam is currently employed as a Special Agent with the Miami-Dade County Office of the Inspector General. Duties include investigating fraud, waste, and mismanagement of County funds. Sam served a Florida Chapter 1st Vice President for 12 years and is the current Florida Chapter President of the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators – IAFCI. Awards include IAFCI investigator and IAFCI member of the year.
